Weather Satellite

Weather Images received in Raleigh NC

137 MHz APT Satellite

Receiver: The main frequencies in use are 136.50 for NOAA 15, 137.62MHz for NOAA 17 and 137.100 for NOAA 18. For Current Satellite Status Click Here. Weather satellite signals require a bandwidth of 40kHz - 50kHz so off the shelf scanners are out of the question because most have a bandwidth of 15kHz which is far too narrow. The Icom PCR1000 works good but a dedicated weather satellite receiver is the best.

Antenna: NOAA weather satellites are transmitted with right-hand circular polarisation. Two common antennas are, the crossed dipole (or turnstile) and the quadrifilar helix (QFH) antenna

Software:WxtoIMG everything you need to start tracking and decoding. Website
